If you’ve been here, you know… Calistoga is a uniquely special, quirky and friendly place. Because we love our visitors, we’re willing to share our insider’s tips with you so you can feel like a Calistogan while you’re here. So we present the top ten things locals love about Calistoga:
- Spotting Jan the colorful bicycle man, who celebrates life by riding his amazingly decked-out bike around town, waving to everyone he sees. He’ll pose for a picture with you, too.
- The $5 burger special on Wednesdays at Café Sarafornia. It’s yummy, comes with salad or fries, and is one of the best deals in town.
- The ultimate Calistoga view: taking an early morning run on Bennett Lane and seeing the hot air balloons and the Old Faithful Geyser going off.
- Seeing the entire town from atop the Palisades in Robert Louis Stevenson State Park with a glass of wine in a Govino glass.
- Under a full moon, riding your bike out to Solage to have cocktails and appetizers outside on the patio.
- Seeing everyone you know in town, and making new friends too, at the Downtown Blues Fest in October.
- Friday Night Happy Hour at the Calistoga Inn. Great microbrews, plenty of local color and just enough out-of-towners mixing and mingling to keep it lively.
- Zen moment: The beauty of walking around town with your blissed-out look and wet hair “spa ‘do” after your mud bath and massage, and nobody looking at you in a funny way.
- Hearing Herb Gibson play a set with his jazz trio on Saturday night while munching the incredible fried calamari at Brannan’s Grill.
- Your other Zen moment (easy to come by in Calistoga): walking the circular stone maze next to the Lodge at Indian Springs while thinking about the vastness of the universe.
